The Metabolic Syndrome Extended Test is a comprehensive blood assessment examining the interconnected factors associated with insulin resistance, diabetes, abnormal cholesterol, inflammation and excess body fat.

Unlike a basic glucose or cholesterol test, this advanced panel assesses insulin production, pancreatic function, detailed lipoproteins and important metabolic hormones, including leptin, adiponectin and resistin.

It provides a deeper understanding of metabolic health and may identify concerning patterns before they progress to type 2 diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Frequently Asked Questions

Metabolic syndrome describes a combination of risk factors that commonly includes abdominal obesity, raised blood pressure, elevated blood glucose, high triglycerides and low HDL cholesterol. Together, these factors increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

No. It is a cluster of interconnected metabolic and cardiovascular risk factors rather than one isolated disease.

Yes. Fasting for approximately 8–10 hours is recommended because the panel includes glucose, insulin, C-peptide and triglycerides. Plain water is permitted.

Allow approximately 30–60 minutes for the health assessment, clinical measurements and blood-sample collection.

Results are usually available within 48 hours after the samples reach the laboratory. Turnaround times may occasionally vary.

Insulin measures circulating insulin. C-peptide helps indicate how much insulin the pancreas is producing naturally. Considering both can
provide additional information about pancreatic function and insulin regulation.

Apolipoproteins provide information about the particles that transport cholesterol and triglycerides. Apolipoprotein B may offer additional
insight into the number of potentially harmful cholesterol-carrying particles.

Lipoprotein(a) is a largely inherited cardiovascular risk factor that is not included in a routine cholesterol profile. A raised level may be
important even when standard cholesterol results appear satisfactory.

Glucose and HbA1c can support the diagnosis of diabetes when interpreted according to recognised clinical criteria. Abnormal results may
require confirmation and review by a GP or another appropriately qualified clinician.

The combination of insulin, glucose, HbA1c and C-peptide can provide valuable information. However, no single result should be used
alone to diagnose insulin resistance.

It may identify metabolic factors associated with weight regulation. However, body weight is also influenced by diet, physical activity, sleep,
medication, hormones, medical conditions and other individual factors.

Yes. Your clinician will review your laboratory findings, explain any abnormalities and provide personalised recommendations.

Your results will be explained, and you will receive guidance about dietary and lifestyle changes, repeat testing, further investigation or
referral to your GP or a specialist where appropriate.

It may support broader metabolic and cardiovascular-risk assessment. However, it does not replace regular diabetes reviews, medication
monitoring or care provided by your GP or diabetes team.
