Biography

Dr. Poonam Gulia-Rawal An Inspiring Force in Women’s Health & Gut Healing through Ayurveda and Modern Science With more than two decades of unwavering commitment, Dr. Poonam Gulia-Rawal stands as a beacon of compassion and innovation in the fields of Ayurvedic gynaecology and gastroenterology. From the modest landscapes of rural India to the distinguished medical institutions of the UK, her journey is one that blends ancient healing wisdom with cutting-edge clinical research—all fuelled by a singular purpose: to empower women to live healthier, happier lives. Born and trained in India, Dr. Poonam graduated from the renowned Mast Nath University with a BAMS degree in Ayurveda, where her passion for women’s health took root. During her formative clinical years at the Civil Hospital in Rohtak, particularly in the gynaecology wing, she found her calling in helping underserved women. She not only treated illnesses but also educated women on menstrual hygiene, iron deficiency, and the essential dietary care needed during pregnancy and postpartum. Her work in the villages—where she continues to be a beloved presence—ignited her lifelong commitment to bridging the gap in women’s healthcare. In pursuit of further excellence, she moved to Scotland and earned a Master’s degree in Dietetics from Glasgow Caledonian University, receiving advanced recognition for her prior expertise. Her clinical journey flourished across the UK, including esteemed placements at St. Thomas’ and Guy’s Hospital in London & Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland.. She began her professional practice at Sandwell General Hospital, where she became a champion for women suffering from PCOS—a condition she has deeply studied and later started treating through a unique fusion of Ayurveda and nutritional therapy. Dr. Poonam’s work in PCOS management has been transformative. Collaborating closely with Diabetes and Endocrinology teams, she has led the way in educating thousands of women—especially from ethnic minorities—on how to rebalance hormones, reduce obesity, and improve fertility through dietary and lifestyle principles rooted in holistic health. Her pioneering efforts led to the development of multi-language guidance materials and group sessions across NHS services, offering a safe, stigma-free space for women to reclaim control of their bodies and hormones. A passionate voice for public health, Dr. Poonam has featured on radio programmes in Birmingham, London, and nationwide, where she has raised awareness around infertility, delayed periods, and the hidden trauma of hormone-related disorders. She has become a trusted advocate, breaking the silence around PCOS and reproductive health—especially in communities where such conversations are often taboo. Driven by her patients’ struggles with bloating, constipation, and IBS-like symptoms, Dr. Poonam delved into the world of Gastroenterology. Her research in IBS gained national attention and led to an extraordinary honour: being listed on Her Majesty the Queen’s Roll of Honour for her groundbreaking dedication to digestive health. She co-authored the British Dietetic Association’s national guidelines on IBS and trained at King’s College London in Low FODMAP therapy—a globally recognised approach to gut health. Further extending her impact, she was appointed Expert Advisor to the UK’s National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) for the development of national guidelines on managing Ulcerative Colitis—cementing her place among the UK’s most respected authorities in gastroenterology. Today, Dr. Poonam continues to practice under the nurturing and visionary roof of Dr. Ashok’s Ayurveda Clinic, where she integrates her rich understanding of inherited constitutional imbalances with the clinical precision of modern science. Her care is deeply individualised, empowering, and soul-touching—a rare blend that has helped thousands of women reclaim their health, dignity, and joy. Dr. Poonam Gulia-Rawal’s life is not just a story of medical milestones—it is a moving testimony to what happens when deep compassion meets unstoppable expertise. I Believe

“A woman’s health is a reflection of her digestive fire—her Agni. When digestion is strong, her mind is calm, stress is lower, and balance is restored. The gut is a woman’s second brain, silently shaping her hormones, emotions, and vitality. Nourish the gut, and the mind clears, cycles flow with ease, and the spirit radiates. Ayurveda unites them all—for true feminine wellness, longevity, and the power to thrive.”
